The client suggested that I try to be more creative with my photography to avoid having a flat cover. I still want to keep my cover quite minimalist but to create more interest with my cover especially  I want to try a range of shot types from close ups to mid shots, so that the focus is on the subject. I also would like to find a subject with tattoos as the blues and greens of tattoos will contrast the pinks and yellows, making him really stand out and pop off the cover. If I cant get tattoos, then a black or navy plain shirt will have the same effect.

During my pitch the client gave me a lot of advice and suggestions on what I could improve on. One of the points that I want to take on board was his comment on the colour scheme. I agree that the colours were too muted, as my intention was to mute them to fit the indie pop aesthetic, however this doesn't translate well to magazines as they need to be bright and eye catching. Therefore I've changed my muted pastel pink to a brighter reddy-pink salmon colour, as it remains in the indie pop theme and is a lot more eye catching. I've also warm up the yellow of the colour scheme.

One issue was how gender specific the magazine was, as a was presenting to a male client. However, changing the target audience wouldn't benefit my production this far in. The colour scheme combined with a male artist will draw in my female target audience for the first edition, and when the genre changes to a more male orientated genre, then a male target audience will gain more traction. As indie pop is primarily listened to by women, I will target them for this first copy, however I used a less gender specific colour of yellow to get my secondary of men involved too.

The main point was the creation of an app over a website. I agree that the creation of a website will use less of the budget and time resources for this project, therefore I'll make a website over an app that's compatible with phones, which still allows for the easy access of the QR code scanner, without having to create and run an app. Possibly in the future I could create an app for the magazine when it gains traction, but to start off a website will be easy and effective. I can also put the website link on my cover, as well as the twitter and Spotify handles. This will allow for a horizontal integration between all my formats in an easier way than having to advertise the app in the magazine. I would also show the web link on pages where there are QR codes, as it will allow people to go to the site and scan it quicker.

I won't take on board the point on the quality of paper and whether or not it fits into my budget. I'm aware that my price is similar to my competitor Q, which also uses the same type of paper, therefore I know it's possible within my budget. This means I can keep the professional finish of my magazine, while staying in budget.

To conclude, I've altered my colour scheme to be more eye-catching, but not to be more inclusive within my target market. I've also decided on the types of models and shot types I would like to use in my magazine cover, which will directly help with my production process. Lastly I've decided a website would be more appropriate than an app for both advertising, saving money and simplicity while launching this new magazine.
